Below, I have grouped my professional, graduate, and paraprofessional experience from my resume into the various functional areas of higher education in which I have worked so far.

Admissions

International Admissions Intern, Office of International Affairs, Kent State University January-May 2010

  • Evaluated academic records and credentials from China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other countries.

  • Created an automated GPA calculator and grade conversion spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.

  • Authored primers on South and East Asian educational systems for the departmental international credentials manual.

Admission Counselor/International Specialist, Saint Xavier University, Chicago, Illinois - July 2007-July 2009

  • Recruited prospective freshman, transfer, and adult undergraduate students at fairs and visit events.

  • Evaluated applications and made recommendations on admission to the university.

  • Provided personalized service to a caseload of approximately 1100 domestic and 50 international applicants each year.

  • Consult with students regarding major selection, job search strategies, interview preparation, and graduate school search.

  • Administer vocational interest instruments, including the Self-Directed Search, TypeFocus, and the College Major Scorecard.

  • Present information on résumés, interviews, and career topics in residence halls, classrooms, and as stand-alone programs.

  • Planned and presented “Diversity for a Lifetime” workshop series, focused on promoting sensitivity in the workplace.

  • Review student and alumni résumés and guide their revision and improvement, both in person and via correspondence.

  • Screen and approve student and alumni résumé and profile uploads to Mount Union’s job site, powered by College Central.

  • Promote job opportunities to Mount Union students and alumni through social media, including LinkedIn.

  • Collect data on recent alumni employment via email, phone, and social media, and analyze employment statistics.

  • Coordinate day-to-day operation of two single-gender, mixed-year residence halls housing 184 students.

  • Supervise a staff of nine student paraprofessionals, including an Assistant Resident Director.

  • Adjudicate student discipline hearings and impose appropriate sanctions as a student conduct officer.

  • Manage crises, serve as an emergency responder, and participate in an on-call duty rotation.

  • Mediate conflict, counsel students in need of assistance, and refer when appropriate.
